ON Squash Success

2 May 2012

2012 Londonderry Cup
g

This year in the Londonderry Cup, the oldest Squash Tournament in the World, we were looking to regain the title back from our old Rivals Millfield School.
We started very strongly in the early rounds with convincing 5-0 victories over both Old Wykehamists and Old Wellingtonians. This year we had debuts from Alex Williams (01-11) and Joe Bolt (04-11) who both had wins.
The semi-final was against Sherborne Pilgrims which took place at the Lords Cricket Ground. We had a slightly weakened team for this match as 3 of our players were unavailable. We put in a great team performance with fantastic contributions from Warwick Farrer (84-93), Mark Thomas (85-95) and Alex Williams (01-11) to secure a place in the final with a 4-1 Win.
The final took place on 27th April 2012 at the prestigious RAC Club in Pall Mall. Our opponents this year were the Old Harrovians who we have in the past had some close games with so we knew that it was going to be a close match.
Norwich School were pumped up for this match and were victorious after wins from Tim Allenden (93-96), Matt Bolt (95-02), Ian Cox (85-92) and Marcus Cowie (86-95) to win 4-1.
After the meal we were presented with the trophy and regained the Londonderry Cup for the fourth time.
I would like to thank all the players for their efforts this year and look forward to winning more titles in the future.
Stuart Cowie (84-92)
