Junior Inter-Regional Regatta (Rowing) 2012

On Saturday, the Junior Inter-Regional rowing championships were held at Nottingham.  Four Norwich School crews were selected to represent the Eastern Region against the other 11 regions.

It was a day of increasingly high winds at Nottingham, which, much to our chagrin, meant that all the finals and some of the heats were cancelled.  Medals were, therefore, awarded to the crews with the fastest times in the heats that actually took place.

This was the first time that one of our girls’ crews was selected –the WJ15 coxed four – and they were placed 6th, which was a great achievement.

Unfortunately the J16A Four did not get to race, but they did form a scratch Eight with the J16 B Four and performed very creditably, finishing with the 4th fastest time, ahead of many crews that normally row together.

The J15A Four (Joe Girling, Louis Lamont, James Steel and Will MacDonald, coxed by Chris Bayton) raced very well in their first sweep-oar regatta.  Recovering from a shaky start, they recorded the second fastest time in the heats and so were awarded the silver medal.  Their result, plus that of the J16 Eight, was a major factor in the Eastern Region boys’ team finishing 3rd overall.
