Cricket Club

15 April 2012

We batted first on a slow, wet wicket and Matthew Plater and Harry Windridge got us off to a solid start in trying conditions; Matthew Plater was eventually dismissed for a fine 47. Will Bryan then took ove,r scoring a composed 48 and with only a few overs left Will Catchpole and Lasith Ranasinghe added some much needed runs at the back of the innings taking the score to a competitive 174 for 5.

Setting the combined Norfolk u16/17 side a chase of just over 4 runs an ove,r the bowlers knew they had to keep it tight throughout innings. Alex Pett and Josh Chatland bowled the first 9 overs for a miserly 19 runs and there was no let-up when Lasith Ranasinghe and Tom Chamberlain replaced them. Tom bowled a terrific spell of 5 overs 1 for 5. With only 44 off their first 20 overs, Norfolk tried to up the run rate and this played right into our hands: as they tried to push the rate on, they lost wickets at regular intervals ensuring that we came away with a thoroughly impressive early-season victory by 12 runs.

The bowling figures are worth printing, but the whole side should take much credit and confidence from this win.

Pett 7-1-25-0
Chatland 6.3-0-26-4
Ranasinghe 8-2-32-1
Chamberlain 5-4-5-1
Pearson 5-1-31-1
Nolan 5-0-20-2
Plater 2-0-16-1
