UK Young Scientist and Engineering Finals

As a result of achieving a Gold Crest Award, Kate Gaffney (U6C) submitted her project to the UK Young Scientist and Engineer of the Year Competition. 170 young students were selected from 4800 to take part in the finals at the NEC in Birmingham. Kate’s project was judged to be in the top 5 in the first round and so was judged again the following day by a panel of judges: Professor Jim Al-Khalili, Vivienne Perry, Sir Tim Hunt and Professor Molly Stevens. Kate is to be congratulated on finishing 3rd in such a competitive field in this prestigious competition.
