Girls’ Football XI v Norwich High School for Girls – Won 3-0

Norwich School hosted the first ever girls’ football fixture against Norwich High. Having started training at the beginning of the Lent Term, the Norwich School girls were very keen to play a competitive football match.

We started the game with flair and quickly asserted our authority on the pitch, taking control of the game with a quick goal from Ellie White, who slotted home a well-placed corner from Elle Tivey. Norwich High soon got over the shock of conceding and came back with a series of attacks that were dealt with well by our centre backs, Laura Russell and Beth Green.

As half time approached we maintained control of the game continuing to have the majority of possession. However Norwich High still looked strong in defence, holding off Gabby Masding from a string of well-taken shots.

The game opened up when Norwich High's wingers in turn each made a strong run at our full backs, Emily Briggs and Charlotte Rogers who stepped up to the challenge and kept the attacker out, while any loose balls through were calmly swept up by clean sheet goalkeeper, Bethan Cornell. All other threats from the away team were cut short by sweeper, Adla Alattas, who stayed solid just in front of the back four.

As the last five minutes aproached, we stepped up our game, winning yet another corner. Another excellent delivey from Tivey was headed in by White to put us 2-0 up. Our tenacity was highlighted by Suzie Squirrell as she battled the whole width of the pitch shoulder to shoulder with Norwich High’s left back, eventually winning back the ball for left winger Katie Fleming to start another attack as Tivey collected the ball, making a quick run down the right hand side, firing in a low cross for Gabby Masding to place in the back of the net.

A well-earned 3-0 win for the girls; it was a fantastic end to the season and a great way to display the hard work and determination put in at training from every single player. Well done girls!
