16th Liechtenstein Exchange
21 April 2010
A particular highlight of the exchange was a visit to the Prince's castle where we met Princess Marie and viewed the Prince's private apartment where we observed preparations for an evening banquet ! Everybody was given a bus pass and this offered a convenient and safe way for the pupils to explore Liechtenstein and cross the border into Switzerland and Austria. Pupils were able to visit Buchs, Werdenberg and Feldkirch under their own steam with their host partners. We also went up into the mountains to try the 'Alpine Coaster' in Goms and a couple of pupils took part in Alpine sports in Malbun. Will Croston also organised a farewell dinner in Feldkirch for both the Liechtenstein and the British groups. The families once again were most hospitable and sent the group home with plenty of Easter goodies.
As on every exchange, you get back what you put in. The pupils all reported that they had made good progress in understanding and communicating in German and that they had all had ample opportunity to practice their language and they even made some progress with the local dialect.
The Liechtensteiners are now looking forward to coming to Norwich in October (and just as importantly I think our pupils are looking forward to this too !). They are going to be accompanied by Herr Franz-Xaver Goop who has returned to the Gymnasium from his secondment to the Council of Europe. He was last in Norwich 10 years ago.
