U14 Norfolk Schools County Cup Final

4 March 2010

To reach the Final the team had previously overcame Langley (17-14) away from home in an enthralling semi-final. This was thanks to some excellent forward play from the forwards particularly Harry Cazier, the ever reliable boot of James Nolan and ruthless finishing from Henry Stevens.
Of the opponents Fakenham had beaten Wymondham College, no less in their own semi-final so it was clear this was not a team to be underestimated.
Norwich started the match the quicker stringing together some wonderful phases of continuity at a blistering pace. Exemplified by flanker Zulum Elumogo putting winger Henry Stevens into the corner to score the opening try and then second row Joseph Girling playing a year up appeared in the centres to crash over close to the posts to stretch the lead to 12-0.

(Henry Stevens goes in the corner)
Norwich relaxed after restart falling off a number of tackles allowing Fakenham to score a soft converted try just before the interval.

With their tails up, Fakenham started the second half strongly however the Norwich defence was outstanding putting in an infinite number of fearless tackles keeping the scoreboard unmoved.

(Fiercely contested lineout)

Alex Pett secured a turnover, Matthew Plater and James Nolan quickly shifted the ball left allowing James Steel take play to all but the Fakenham try-line. Shortly afterwards Nick Siemons picked from the base of a good scrum and crashed over to seal the match. Just before the finish Lawrence Randle sprinted to score from another wonderful flowing move again created from some good work from the pack on the floor to turn the ball over. Well done to all involved in was an excellent squad performance.

Final Score: Norwich School U14A won 22-7

Ironmen – Will Fleming, Zulum Elumogo, Joseph Girling
