Triumphant Success for Junior Play James and The Giant Peach
21 November 2016
For two shows only, Norwich School's Junior production of James and the Giant Peach graced The Playhouse's stage. Under the brilliant direction of Charlotte Wyndham a cast of 27 L4s, U4s and L5s, some of whom were giving their debut performances, put on a mature and humorous showing of Roald Dahl's classic. Dahl's writing was brought alive by the strong ensemble pieces, as well as some notable solo performances. Kip Horton played a thoughtful and conscientious James, while the Insects were characterised superbly by Megan Foyster - Ladybird, Monty Platt - Centipede, Lola Dunlop - Silkworm, Betsy James - Earthworm, Kitty Taylor - Miss Spider and Alastair Wyllie - Old Green Grasshopper, who also played his violin on stage. Gus Sanders and Mia Bartram also deserve special mention for their masterful depictions of the two wicked Aunts!
A wonderful backstage crew ensured all ran smoothly, whilst Jonathan Jolly (U5) on the piano provided musical accompaniment to give an extra dimension to the play!
Among the high-praise of the audience feedback were the following: "Well performed with outstanding characterisation!" and "Very professional, and it was wonderful to see the cast having so much fun, which made it even more enjoyable for the audience!"
Once again, a huge thank you and congratulations to all involved! Hopefully, the Junior Play will return to the Playhouse next year, just as successfully...
