Cathedral choir
Norwich School is very proud to educate the trebles of the Cathedral Choir. The standards that these young boys are able to achieve are truly remarkable. The Choir sings daily in the Cathedral and enjoys a national and international reputation, broadcasting regularly on radio and television and taking part in concert tours at home and abroad. Our choristers live particularly full and busy lives and are often among the most committed and high achieving of pupils within the wider context of school life. We value the immense contribution that they make.

A choristership brings daily acquaintance with fine literature and music in one of the great buildings of our Christian heritage. What is learned there of faith and worship is learned not just for schooldays but for life. The enthusiasm of the choristers for their work is infectious and quickly draws all newcomers into the fellowship. The disciplines of stability and concentration which choristers must quickly acquire are of lasting benefit.
The Routine of the Choir
The choir sings Evensong on most weekdays during term time at 5.15pm (finishing at about 6.00pm) and two services on Sundays – the Eucharist at 10.30am and Evensong at 3.30pm.
Rehearsals are every morning Monday to Friday 8.15am - 9.00am, afternoons 4.25pm until Evensong begins (the boys are given some light refreshment on arriving from school at about 4.00pm). There is a rehearsal on Fridays after Evensong until 6.50pm. Most Saturdays are free but there are occasional commitments that require Saturday attendance. On Sundays there is a rehearsal at 9.10am and a choristers' rehearsal at 2.45pm.
Cathedral terms are normally very similar to school terms but the Michaelmas Term continues until Christmas Day, and the Choir is on duty in Holy Week – ie from Palm Sunday to Easter Day. In the summer, the Choir’s Trinity Term ends on the Sunday after the end of the School term. Holidays are therefore very similar to school holidays but a week or so shorter at the greater Festivals. Half-terms are also the same as school half-terms but sometimes include only one weekend rather than two.
Changes to the normal routine and extra commitments do occur and notice of these is given by the Master of the Music or the Precentor.
